MEET OUR DIRECTORS
We are excited to announce that Juline School of Dance is now under the ownership and leadership of Akira Takahashi and Amy Marie Briones, a talented duo both on stage and in life. With their extensive backgrounds as former professional dancers, Akira and Amy are thrilled to infuse Juline’s storied legacy with their passion and expertise, guiding and inspiring the next generation of dancers.
JRYB DIRECTOR, JSD DIRECTOR
Akira Takahashi
Akira Takahashi, originally from Nagano, Japan, began his ballet training in his homeland, where he developed a strong foundation in classical technique. In 2005, he joined Ballet San Jose, where he built a distinguished career over more than a decade. Promoted to Soloist in 2012, Akira performed leading roles in a wide variety of classical and contemporary works, earning recognition for his artistry and technical skill. In 2016, he joined Menlowe Ballet, continuing to expand his repertoire and deepen his artistry.
As the JRYB (Juline Regional Youth Ballet) Director of the Pre-professional Ballet company housed at Juline School of Dance, Akira combines his extensive professional experience with a passion for teaching and mentoring young dancers. His guidance emphasizes discipline, artistry, and a love for the art of ballet.
Akira is married to Amy Marie Briones, a fellow professional dancer and co-director of Juline School of Dance. Together, they have three young children. In 2024, Akira and Amy became the directors of Juline School of Dance, where they continue to inspire and nurture the next generation of dancers while preserving the studio's rich legacy.

Amy Marie Briones
Amy Marie Briones began her training at Ayako School of Ballet in Belmont, CA, where her talent was recognized early. At just 10, 11 & 14 years old, she earned top honors at the prestigious Youth America Grand Prix competition. Amy’s exceptional abilities led her to the USA International Ballet Competition, where she placed in the top 12.
At the age of 16, Amy joined Ballet San Jose, embarking on a remarkable 11-year career as a soloist. Her passion for dance has since transitioned into teaching and mentoring the next generation of dancers.
In 2024, Amy and her husband, Akira Takahashi, became the directors of this esteemed studio, continuing its legacy of excellence in Modesto, CA. Together, they are proud parents to two young boys and a baby girl, balancing family life with their shared commitment to nurturing the art of dance.

Our Teaching Staff
Addison Bello
Dance Instructor
Addison Bello started dancing at JSD when she was 4 years old and has loved teaching in our elementary department since she was 14. She adores getting to know each and every one of her students uniquely every week. When Addison’s not teaching at JSD she’s a part time photographer and part time preschool teacher.
Bailey Christopher
Dance Instructor
Since the age of 4, Bailey has dedicated her life to dance. She began her journey in the Juline School of Dance’s elementary department as a teaching assistant, where she discovered her passion for dance instruction. After three years of assisting, Bailey officially joined the JSD staff in 2021. Each year, she enjoys building connections with her dancers and their families, sharing her love of dance with every student. Currently, Bailey is pursuing a degree in exercise science at Stanislaus State University. Beyond dance, she is deeply passionate about physical therapy and injury prevention.
Kristina Hansen
Office Manager
Kristina began dancing at age 4 and continued through her college years. She now takes Adult Tap classes. Before coming to JSD, she worked in education for 19 years as an elementary school teacher, teaching grades K, 2, 3, 4, and 6. She enjoys swimming, gardening, traveling and especially white water rafting. Fun fact: she and her daughter share the same birthday!
Bless Marrable-Smith
Dance Instructor
Bless Marrable-Smith holds a teaching credential and is employed at Garrison Elementary School in Modesto. While obtaining her bachelors degree, Bless studied Modern and Jazz Dance. She currently teaches Modern Dance at JSD.
Brienna Wilbers

Nick Bentley
Dance Instructor
Nick Bentley teaches Hip Hop at JSD. Nick has been involved with The Dance Program at MJC since 2002. He gathers Inspiration from his friends and family, finds creativity in the world around him, and always pushes himself and his fellow dancers to work harder for the love of dance.
Francine English
Dance Instructor
Francine first began teaching at Juline School of Dance in 1991. She has studied modern, ballet, jazz and African dance locally and at UC Irvine. While raising four girls with her husband, John, Francine continues to teach and dance.
Madison Harris
Dance Instructor
Madison Harris has been dancing at JSD ever since she was 3 years old (Creative Dance) and was a part of Juline Regional Youth Ballet (JRYB). Now she absolutely loves teaching in our elementary department! She adores getting to know each and every one of her students and continues to spread her love of dance with her littles! Madison is currently on her last year at Stanislaus State working on becoming a kindergarten teacher!
Rebbecca Meyers
Dance Instructor
Rebbecca Meyers is a past employee of JSD and is excited to return. She holds an MA in Dance Education from the University of Northern Colorado and was the Dance Director of the Ceres High School Dance Program for eight years, 2016 - 2024. Recently, Rebbecca became the part-time Dance Director at Enochs High School as well as adjunct Dance faculty at Modesto Junior College, teaching Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop. Rebbecca's passion for dance is embedded in her teaching.
Makayla Temores
Dance Instructor
Makayla Temores danced for nearly 15 years, beginning her journey at Juline School of Dance around the age of 9 to further her dance education. She later joined the pre-professional division and became a member of the company, showcasing her dedication and talent. Currently pursuing a career as a Transitional Kindergarten (T-K) teacher, Makayla is passionate about sharing her love of dance with her students.
Chloe Chan
Dance Instructor
Chloe Chan has trained at Juline School of Dance for 12 years and is currently a member of the pre-professional division. As a senior company member of the Juline Regional Youth Ballet (JRYB), she has participated in esteemed ballet summer intensives, including The Rock School for Dance Education and Oklahoma City Ballet. Chloe is passionate about sharing her love for the arts with her students, inspiring them through her knowledge and dedication to dance.
Julia Gibson
Dance Instructor
At age five, Julia began her dance training with Juline School of Dance. Under the direction of Gretchen Vogelzang, she danced corps, soloist, and principal roles with Bravo! Repertory Dance Theatre. She earned a teaching credential and a Master's which she uses as an elementary school teacher.
Leena Malekyan
Dance Instructor
Leena Malekyan has been a part of Juline School of Dance since she was just 4 years old, cherishing every moment of her journey. She began as a teaching assistant and has since grown into a dedicated dance instructor. Leena’s passion for both dance and the studio shines through in everything she does.
Jennifer Shannon
Dance Instructor
Jennifer Shannon has been teaching as JSD since 1994. She has taught all levels of ballet and tap, and has trained with Dance Masters of America. Jennifer has two beautiful children and volunteers and many of their school events. She is also very involved with her family’s church activities.
Janet Walther-Mackey
Dance Instructor
Janet Walther-Mackey previously owned her own dance studio in Manteca where she still lives. Many alumni from her studio went on to become professional dancers around the world. Janet was a member of the RAD Tappers from San Francisco and trained with some of the best tappers including Gregg Russell and Keith Clifton.

Our Legacy
Begun in 1974 by the late Juline Frowein Schmitz, the primary goal of Juline School of Dance is to give every child and adult a positive feeling about him or herself while offering the highest quality of training possible.
Our expertly trained faculty is dedicated to the building of self-confidence in each student along with a knowledge, an appreciation, and a genuine and lasting love for the art of dance.
